How it works:
The Pigeon Track System is a GPS receiver with a built-in battery that tracks and records your bird’s flight path using satellite technology.
The flight path is made up of many sequentially numbered coordinates gathered from satellites and displayed on Google Earth. Each number on the route corresponds to a GPS reading at the recommended 30 second intervals.
The flight path can be downloaded onto your computer and the exact coordinate paths and elevation of your bird flight can be viewed on Google Earth (Google Earth is automatically downloaded to your computer upon installation of the Pigeon Track program). This flight path can be saved and shared through email.
The device is small enough to fit on a pigeon’s back with the provided harness.
The two Harnesses are provided for training block and GPS unit. They secure to the bird and hold the training block or GPS data logger securely with industrial strength Velcro. This pre-attached Velcro also eliminates loading the data logger upside down thereby restricting satellite reception. The harness, GPS receiver and built-in battery weigh just 16 grams. For a 16 oz. pigeon it is the equivalent of an average man carrying a 6-lb. pack.
The Practice Harness and Training Weight are the exact same weight as the GPS unit.
Yes, you can lose the bird and the GPS to any of the same risks you incur during training or racing. We suggest you use a bigger bird (at least 16 oz.) that has clocked in your club races, but certainly not your best bird.
